She did, and signed a six-book deal with them, on rather unfair terms (subsidiary rights would be shared 50/50 between author and publisher and she would get no royalties until 2,000 copies were sold). While at The Bodley Head she acquired Edmund Cork (of Hughes Massie) as a literary agent, remaining with the firm until her death 50 years later.
